Barry Hunter - Associate Scrap Consultant
Barry Hunter started his career in the secondary metals industry right after his graduation at Indiana University in 1960, by entering his father’s small scrap business in New Jersey. In 1972 Barry joined the Schiavone-Bonomo Corporation, where he began focusing on international trade as Vice-President of the newly formed Stainless and Alloy Division of the company. From 1987 for 15 years he continued to develop his international expertise as Senior Vice-President and shareholder of the Baltimore based S.G. Keywell Co. In July 2003, together with Derek Benham, he formed Hunter-BenMet Assoc. LLC to deal with supplies of both secondary and primary raw materials.
In March 2007, Mr. Hunter began operations of his own company, Hunter Alloys LLC. He will continue to focus on stainless steel scrap, high temperature alloy scrap and high speed steel scrap for international consuming markets. He will continue to offer and hopefully expand his role in consulting services.
During his over 40 years career in the industry, he has actively participated in various international trade associations, holding positions of high responsibility. From 1999-2003 he served as President of BIR (Bureau of International Recycling), representing the interests of the international recycling industry with over 550 member firms, and national trade federations in 55 participating countries. In 2006 Mr. Hunter received the prestigious Life Time Achievement Award from ISRI (Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries), for his dedicated service to the industry.
Over the years Mr. Hunter has been called on to speak and represent the industry at just about all major symposiums dealing with Stainless Steel.
